Changing perceptions is hard. I have to admit that I had not been to Universal Orlando in a number of years. My boys visited, but my trips were limited to the pick up and drop off zone (which works perfectly). So, when the opportunity arose, I took it. And, although I am sunburn, even after using SPF 50 sunscreen, tired, and have a swollen foot or two – I am so glad I visited.
My old perception was that Universal Orlando was really for families with older children and there wasn’t much for anyone else. Boy was I wrong! Universal Orlando has two parks: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Each has its own vibe and each has something for every member of your family. I would love to tell you more about the parks, but I want to tell you more about family friendliness.
The close proximity between the parks and the onsite resorts is also so family friendly. Coming and going to the parks is so easy. When the sun gets too hot, you simply ride the boat back to your resort, chill off and head back to the parks to finish off the day. Once you get from the gate of your park to your resort, it’s only about 15 minutes max.
The third family friendly component is the Express Pass. One word – WOW! When you stay at a Universal Orlando deluxe resort, the Express Pass is included. Imagine getting cuts in almost every line. That’s what the Express Pass does. There are a few exceptions, so make sure to note them, but for the most part, you whisk by the long line and slip right onto the ride. This maximizes your time in the parks, reduces the frustration of trying to entertain kids in the line, and it makes your park experience so much more enjoyable.
The last family friendly aspect I want to highlight is the Kid Swap program. What makes their program so nice is that the parent and child/ren waiting have a nice relaxing room to wait in. It takes away the stress and anxiety of standing out on the platform or hanging out in a hallway area. It allows for a calming atmosphere until the swap is made.
Universal Orlando is a great destination or even an add on for a Disney vacation. With something for every member of your family, I know you will change your ideas about Universal Orlando. I have great maps I would love to share with you as we plan your trip, get in touch and I’ll be happy to send you one.
