Guru Tips – Have Fun, Start New Traditions

Cyndy Guest Blogger

We are continuing with our series of the best tips from our team of travel professionals. Enjoy!

When we travel, we know we will never see the people again, so why not make fools of ourselves and have some fun. When the boys were younger, we would do theme days. One trip we decided we would only talk like pirates for one day. Do you know how hard that is? You can only AARRGGHHH so many times? But think about it, you are challenging your brain to think differently, so it becomes sort of a brain workout at the same time. Another trip we were British all day. That’s hard too! Of course we would do research before we went to help increase our vocabulary and practice, but once we walked through that gate, we would become the pirates or Brits that were hiding deep inside us! Looking back, these are some of our best memories. We would snicker because it was so absurd, giggle when someone looked at us like we were aliens, and roll into laughter when it didn’t make sense or someone slipped up. Create memories for your family by reaching outside the box, pushing your parameters and maybe even finding the pirate in you!

Traditions are an important part of any trip. And for us, the classics are the best. Sometime we say that we are only going to do only a Lame Joke Day – Hoop De Doo Musical Review, Jungle Cruise, Tiki Room, you get the picture. Go to those traditional Walt Disney World attractions that were a part of the memories of your first trip. The jokes are often lame, they remind you of jokes your grandpa told. We have heard the same jokes for 20+ years, but we roar with laughter. These silly jokes always cause us to reflect and remember a certain trip or a certain moment. As a mom, this makes me smile because it makes me happy that Disney has been entrenched in my children’s memories for years.
