Review: The Hardiman Hotel, Galway

I am back today with another review of my trip to Ireland. If you have been following along my review of our trip through the Republic of Ireland, great!!! If not, you won’t want to miss my review of my very favorite hotel in Dublin and my FAVORITE spot in Ireland (Kilkenny), and next our perfectly located hotel in Cork.

Today brings us to Galway, Ireland. Such a beautiful city! We chose to stay at the Hardiman Hotel. The Hardiman Hotel, an iconic establishment in Galway’s Eyre Square since 1852, seamlessly blends Victorian elegance with modern luxury. Its prime location offers guests immediate access to the city’s vibrant attractions, including theaters, pubs, and restaurants. You will have a one minute walk to both the train and bus stations as well as just a few minute walk to the famous shopping, pub, and entertainment district.

Accommodation: The hotel boasts 103 guest rooms, including 19 luxury suites, each thoughtfully refurbished to combine historical charm with contemporary comfort. Rooms in the Main House feature traditional décor with high Victorian ceilings and tall windows, while those in the newer wing are adorned in soothing, natural tones. Amenities include comfortable beds, marble bathrooms with designer toiletries, flat-screen TVs with Chromecast, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Dining: Guests can indulge in a variety of dining experiences:

  • Gaslight Brasserie: Offers classic dishes showcasing the finest Irish produce.
  • Oyster Bar: Provides a selection of fresh seafood and beverages.
  • MacNeill’s Pub: Features excellent food, a superb drink selection, live music, and live sports broadcasts.

Depending on how you book, breakfast will be included and it is a wonderful spread. We enjoyed the MacNeill’s Pub on our last evening. They had live music and board games out to play. We could not resist the urge to play Scrabble!

Planning Notes:

  • Event Spaces: Accommodates up to 240 delegates, suitable for weddings and corporate events.
  • Proximity to Transport: Located just a one-minute walk from both the train and bus stations, facilitating easy travel.
  • Laundry: The laundry service here was very easy to use. You simply leave your laundry outside your room prior to 7:00 am and it will be returned the same day in the evening. Note that they do not offer this service on Sunday or Bank Holidays.
  • Parking: Valet parking is available for €30 per day on a first come first serve basis, there is a set down area in front of the main entrance of the hotel, available while you check in. Please check with our reception team if valet parking is available. Alternatively, they have discounted parking with Hynes Yard Multi Story car park located on Merchants Road for €11 per day approx. (We did the discounted parking and it was VERY easy)
  • Air Conditioning-Only available in Deluxe Suites and Junior Suites. It is important to note that the rooms get a little hot, the windows open a bit but they do not have screens and there’s a lot of pigeons. The Hardiman does have a little fan in the closet for you to use.

If you’re seeking a hotel that combines historical elegance with modern comforts, The Hardiman Hotel in Galway’s Eyre Square is a standout choice. Its prime location places you at the heart of the city’s vibrant life, with attractions, dining, and entertainment just steps away. The spacious rooms, adorned with old-world decor, offer a unique and comfortable retreat, though it’s worth noting that not all rooms have individual temperature controls. The exceptional service, exemplified by attentive staff who go above and beyond, adds a personal touch to your stay. Whether you’re in town for leisure or business, The Hardiman provides a memorable experience that captures the essence of Galway. I will be back!
