When saving money for Disney, we use our Mickey Money Jars. We have four different jars, each for a specific reason. We do this just to see which way saves more money. One jar is the “found” money jar. This is where we put money that we find that others have lost or dropped. We spend a lot of time walking with our eyes down to the ground. Our next jar is the “lost” money jar. This is the jar that I fill with change that I find in the washer or dryer, on the floor when I sweep or in the couch cushions. The third money jar is for weekly pocket change. We don’t put it in there daily, as you never know when you may need a penny. We empty our pockets of change at the end of the week.
A few years ago, we started our fourth jar. It is the $5 jar. Anytime someone gets a five dollar bill it goes in the jar. You would really be surprised about how many fives go through your hands! Last year we started saving in July and by the time our December Disney trip rolled around we had over $200. As you can tell, this jar is where we accumulate the most money.
There are so many unique ways to save money for Disney, or any other vacation. It is much easier if you make it fun as well. Our jars are decorated with cute little Mickey and Minnie ears. We also let the kids help us count the money and roll the coins. Our credit union gives us free used coin rolls and accepts the rolls as deposit. This is better because the machines that count and give you cash actually take a percentage of what you put in.
Get the family excited about saving and make it magical!

Living in Vancouver, very close to the US border, we get US change mixed up with the Canadian coins. All the US change goes into a savings box. Since I try to go to WDW once a year, I get $50 – $100 in US cash every now and then, it goes in the box as well. That way, I have my spending money when I do go on my trip and don’t use my credit card for souvenirs, it is nice to come home from vacation to no bills!
I made a jar and my children help save too! We get cash back from grocery shopping and put it in the jar or occasionally buy Disney gift cards and out them in!

I just made some jar things for my boys. They are “Mickey’s Helper Jars” and they get tickets for doing good things around the house, being nice, cleaning up a mess, etc. They can then use the tickets to “Buy” extras on our Disney Trip, such as going to the Pirate’s League, a special character meal, ticket’s to Mickey’s Halloween Party, etc.

P.s. I designed the labels myself and they is a printable in my post!
