What I missed with an Interior Stateroom…

We help hundreds of families plan cruise travel every year. Each time you book a first time cruiser they are fully overwhelmed by all of the choices that you have in decks, staterooms, placement on the deck…ect. One major conversation that always takes place is the conversation about interior vs. oceanview staterooms.

I have been fortunate enough to always travel and have a veranda on a cruise, until recently. . I personally feel there is  no other way to go…I will get to that in a bit. The Gurus took a training cruise in March 2014 and for the trip we were assigned inside cabins. I was not too concerned about this because when I work, I like to experience travel in a way that I would not normally travel. Having this experience helps me to better help you.

  • An interior stateroom will be much less expensive.
  • The interior room did NOT make me claustrophobic. Many people say they feel like the are in a coffin when they stay interior  and I would have to beg to differ on that. YES, the rooms are small but I found them to be rather cozy.
  • There is NO natural daylight whatsoever…this can be a HUGE minus to people as I have heard of people sleeping during ports of call because they lost sense of time.
  • If you stay interior get a higher deck. There tends to be more movement on the lower deck and that combined with no view can make one ill.

When I cruised in March and had my very first experience with an interior room I was looking out for all of the points listed above. I wanted to see if I lost anything by staying inside vs. having a room with a view.

I have to be honest..I LOVE  a room with a view. When you cruise, you are going to see things you cannot see at home. One of those things being endless tranquil ocean. There is nothing like opening that veranda and smelling the fresh air, hearing the ocean all while you enjoy your free room service. I feel like this is a feature worth paying for..it can make your cruise so much more magical. If you want to room with a view but do not want to pay for a veranda then I would suggest an oceanview room.

The MAJOR thing I lost was the excitement of waking up in the morning, opening the veranda, and seeing where we were for the day. The ports are so beautiful and seeing the boat docked in a new place every single morning took my breath away. I feel like that is what you are cruising for, not just the boat but the views.

You have to weigh out the pros and cons and see what is best for your family.
