Located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park, the 50’s Prime Time Cafe is a themed table service restaurant specializing in the 50’s. From unique kitchenette tables with tv’s, to Aunt Pam telling you to eat your greens, and keep those elbows off the table, this place is a fun location to catch a meal.
After my first visit in 2012, it became a favorite, one I intend to repeat many times in the future. You can find 50’s Prime Time Cafe just off Hollywood Blvd in front of Echo Lake.
If you have a party of 4 or less, ask if a TV table is available- these fun tables could have come straight out of an episode of Leave it to Beaver, and each is decorated differently.
Top on the list of goodies are the fantastic shakes available- you get these in an old fashioned soda fountain glass, with the cold metal tumbler filled with more! There is even a Peanut Butter & Jelly version, which gets high ranking from many avid fans.
For dinner, there are many comfort food options, including pot roast, fried chicken, chicken pot pie, meatloaf, and more. My personal favorite is a sampler platter that comes with pot roast, fried chicken, and meatloaf. If you are not that hungry, or are looking for a budget friendly meal, this sampler platter is more than enough to feed two adults. I had a hard time deciding which portion was my favorite, and enjoyed all three of them.
Dessert is not to be missed, so make sure you leave some room. Dad’s Sundae is a creation with a brownie, ice cream, caramel corn, m & m’s, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a cherry, of course. This is a large dessert, so sharing is encouraged! Want something a little more unique? Try the S’mores dessert! Marshmallows are lined on top of a graham cracker, lightly toasted golden brown, and covered in chocolate sauce.
This restaurant also serves adult beverages- the Magical Star Cocktail is a favorite of mine. It’s light, fruity, and comes with a fun multi-colored light up ‘ice cube’ as a souvenir.
Quick tip- these ice cubes are included in the price. You can ask that the cube not be added, and it will take around $2.00 off any drink that includes one. This price may vary. However, if you want to buy a cube without the alcohol, expect to pay more like $4-5. This option is available at any of the Disney restaurants and bars that have these fun light up cubes.
No desire for food? The attached Tune In Lounge is straight out of your dad’s basement rec room, and perfect for some adult beverages. Pop in, take a seat, and grab a drink- no reservations are needed in this fun lounge.
