Dis Savvy here with a dining article! When my family chooses dining at Disney, we try to find experiences that we can’t find at home. One such restaurant on property is located in EPCOT’s World Showcase. When making your way around the world, be sure to stop in Germany. There you will find the Biergarten Restaurant.
I admit in the past I was hesitant to visit. When I think of German food, I think of heavy and smelly. Sauerkraut.
Do not be afraid! The Biergarten offers so much for everyone! Let’s take a look!
ATMOSPHERE:
Upon entering the restaurant, you feel like you’ve walked into an Okotberfest celebration in a small German town. Your host will introduce him/herself and tell you from where they hail. You will be escorted to your table. This restaurant is designed for the social group! If your party is smaller than 8 in size, plan on being seated with another family of diners. We have had wonderful experiences meeting new people while eating here.
ENTERTAINMENT:
A live troupe of performers will come out on stage and play songs for your entertainments during your meal. You’ll hear traditional German songs. Several of the band members have special talents they will display during their set. At Christmas time, the performance area is decorated and all of the children are asked to come forward to hear a holiday story. Each child receives a golden coin as a rememberance of the story time.
While the band plays, you are more than welcome to jump up and dance on the dance floor. Participation varies depending on the crowd. One year Katybug and I did a little polka and a Chicken Dance.
Your band will also make sure you will be well hydrated! Throughout the show, guests will be prompted to raise their classes and chant along “Ziggy Zaggy Ziggy Zaggy Oi Oi Oi!!!” and then take a drink!
FOOD AND BEER:
Why else do you go to a restaurant but to EAT??!! The restaurant is a buffet – with two identical sides. If one side has a long line, jump over to the other side. The first section offers a vast array of cold salads. The hot food selection will vary a bit from lunch to dinner. Dinner menus offer a slightly better cut of meats. Here is the best part of dining here. TRY something. TRY anything. TRY it all. If you don’t like it, don’t get anymore!
Then there are desserts! Apple Strudel, Black Forest cake and Bavarian Cheesecake are the top choices in my book.
Remember, you are in Germany so if you care to try some authentic German beer, this is the place to do it! If you know what you like, grab a big mug of it. If you like to experiment, there are flights of beer varying from light to dark.
