Guest Post~Creating Magic: Disney Style

We LOVE to hear from our Disney fans!! Contact us today if you would like to spread Disney magic by writing for Disney Guru too!!

First of all, I want to thank Kelly for giving me the chance to write for Disney Guru. I love everything Disney and am glad to have others to talk with about my obsession. My husband isn’t quite as Disney obsessed as me and sometimes it’s good to have someone else to talk to about Disney.

I guess the first thing to do is to introduce myself. My name is Michelle. I’ve been a Disney addict since I was 12 years old. That was when I took my first trip to Disney with my dad. I remember that trip like it happened yesterday. We stayed at Fort Wilderness and I’ve always remembered that trip and that started my love of Disney. My dad was never one for theme parks, so that was my last trip until I turned 18. Then, I went pretty much every year. Mostly on solo trips. At least until I met my husband. He shares my love of everything Disney. Although, I can go on and on about our upcoming trips until he’s had enough.
I had to choose something to write about for my first article. So, I thought that the perfect topic would be:
Creating Magic: Disney Style
My son has been going to Disney World since he was 3. His first Magical moment was when we went to Epcot for breakfast. We ate at the Garden Grill. Well, we were celebrating his 3rd birthday and they brought him out a cake. Well, it is a cake that he still talks about to this day. He loved the little sugar decoration that was on top of it. They also gave him a birthday card signed by Pluto, Mickey, Chip and Dale. To him, that was magical.
During that same trip, the two of us went to the Magic Kingdom together while my husband went on a tour.  My son has always been very outgoing. He is especially outgoing with adults. He would talk with the Cast Members and they were drawn to him. Well, that morning, they were looking for a little boy and girl to open Fantasyland. Since my son was so outgoing and talkative, the Cast Member asked him if he would like to do it. Of course he said yes and of course I didn’t have our camera with us. My husband had it with him on the tour.
That was when we learned a valuable lesson. Always bring an extra camera with you. Because you never can tell when magic will happen.
So, the reason for my article is because some of my friends marvel at the fact that we have had so many magical moments at Disney. From the smallest little things to the biggest.
The number one thing that I always recommend to people who ask about the magic. Always arrive at the park well before the rope drop. Take time to speak to the Cast Members that are hanging around out in front. Because they are your first chance to create magic. We were chosen as family of the day at Epcot once simply because my son was talking to the Cast Member and was joking around with him. He found out that we had come up there after a hurricane. I hadn’t been paying attention, I was used to my son talking with the Cast Members and I had been on the phone with my husband at the time, well, when the Cast Member came over and asked if we wanted to be family of the day, I was blown away.
It is that kind of magic that makes every trip to Disney special. No matter if you have been there once or one hundred times, it’s wonderful to feel, at least for a moment, that you are doing something that very few people get a chance to do.
The same things goes with the shows that they choose the participants ahead of time. Talk to the Cast Members. Don’t be afraid to ask if they have chosen the helpers for that particular show. My son and his best friend got chosen for a show simply because he asked about it. He was 5 at the time and was an old pro at how to make the Disney Magic happen. Not only for himself, but for his friends.
Not only is the magic possible at Disney, but it’s possible at the other parks in the Orlando area. He was picked for 2 shows at Sea World in one day. Because he asked that magical question. Do you have your helpers yet?
Don’t ever be afraid to ask. That’s what the Cast Members are there for. To help make the magic for you and your family.
Good luck to you and your family on your next Disney vacation.
