There is Some Great Golfing at Disney and Beyond

Did you think that coming to the Orlando area meant theme parks and rides only; some of the best golfing is right here in the Disney and Universal area! Here are some of the great places that you can play while visiting the Orlando area.

 Golf near Walt Disney World

Disney’s Palm course and Magnolia course opened up right across the street from the Magic Kingdom and Polynesian Resort in 1971.   Also at this complex is the nine-hole Oak Trail course, a family- and walker-friendly option.

Two more 18-hole Disney golf courses are located elsewhere on property. The Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, another classic Florida design by Joe Lee, weaves through Old Key West Resort and Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa near Downtown Disney.

Osprey Ridge Golf Course, a Tom Fazio design, this sweeping 18-hole course is arguably one of the most tranquil locales in all of Walt Disney World Resort. It boasts 7,101 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72—making Disney’s Osprey Ridge suitable for serious and recreational golfers who seek a challenge. It is located near to Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Going beyond the Disney foursome of courses, visit the new Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Bonnet Creek. Designed with a five-tee system for all playing abilities, yet quite challenging.  Test your skill on the 18-hole Rees Jones-designed championship course, winding through a large wetland preserve and measuring 7108 yards with a Par 72, Slope 139, and 74.6 rating from its Professional Tees.

Golf near Sea World and Universal Studios

Shingle Creek Golf Club is located near International Drive just ½ mile from the Orange County Convention Center at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. This resort course opened in 2003 and features generous fairways winding through waterways and large, fast greens. The golf course can be as tough as you want to make it with five sets of tees, playing up to 7,228 yards.

A few minutes north of Universal Studios to MetroWest Golf Club. This course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It is part of a residential community and is known to the locals as one of the area’s top daily-fee courses with no resort element attached.  This is partly because it boasts more elevation changes than just about any other course around. MetroWest has resort-like amenities such as free valet parking, golf cart GPS systems, and locker rooms with shower facilities.

Orlando has many entertainment options, we are more than just theme parks!!  So the next time you think of a great golfing vacaction, think Orlando!
