Karen and I just returned back from a great stay at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun. We had a fabulous time and we very impressed with what Hyatt Ziva had to offer.
Just 15 minutes from the airport, Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun is located between the natural Bahia Petempich beach and the Caribbean Sea. After our stay Karen and I agreed that we feel that this property would be great for families, multigenerational groups, couples, and friends groups as they have so much going on all of the time. One thing I loved about Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun is that it gives off the vibe of old school all inclusive resorts. It is easy to navigate, dining is located in one area, rooms are big, and there no shortage of activities all day long.
In all fairness, Karen and I stayed the previous 3 nights at the brand new Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club so it was a major shock to our system to go from the tranquil and luxurious setting of Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club up to the action packed more moderate Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun. So needless to say, Hyatt Ziva had a lot of impressing to do. At a first glance we could clearly see that the Inclusive Collection was working on adding their touches still. The property is undergoing some refreshments in all areas and it does need it. However, the staff are very welcoming and all of the spaces are clean and being cared for.
The check-in process was fairly straightforward. We were not in Preferred Club so we were escorted to the general check-in desk. We only waited about 5 minutes before being helped. It is very normal for your room not to be ready before 3:00 PM, and ours was not. Karen and I went to lunch and enjoyed the sunshine.
HOT TIP! Have your essentials in your personal item so that you can start your vacation off immediately even if your room is not ready.
We had the pleasure of staying in an Ocean View Junior Suite. Let me tell you, this room is huge! There’s tons of closet space, and drawers. The bathrooms offer plenty of space for two people to get ready. We loved that the toilet room also has a separate frosted glass door. The balcony is HUGE offering a lot of space to sit and just take in the view. The beds were really good which was a surprise to me! I also loved that the bathroom had wood panels you can close for privacy. Last, there’s a very large tub in the room for anyone who likes to relax.
Again, this room is great for all types of travelers. If you are travelling with kids you can very easily spread out. If you are a group of friends, there’s space for all to get ready and relax.
HOT TIP! Late-night cravings? Order a bite to your room with 24-hour in-suite private dining
There’s no shortage of things to do at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun. Karen and I enjoyed the main pool because that is where there’s music playing, and poolside activities as well as the swim-up bar. It is important to note that there’s 9 sparkling pools on this property
There’s always something going on, we saw a family foam pool party, yoga, aerobics class and nightly shows.

Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun has 7 restaurants. The French restaurant is and adult-only restaurant. Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun offers seven bars and lounges serving premium brand domestic and international favorites ranging from swim-up to a
nightly music lounge.
In terms of food, the Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun offers dining that is very moderate. I would not call the food gourmet. They did seem to have something going on because only a couple of the restaurants were open each night and one of the nights they seemed to be very short-staffed. No dining reservations are offer but you can expect to wait about 40-minutes for a table. We would put our name in and go to the lounge to have a cocktail or browse in the shops.
I was not impressed with the wine so I purchased wine which was very good! Be prepared for that if you are a wine drinker.
Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun is an all-inclusive resort. I do want to point out that while you are able to dine at all of the dining options throughout the property, there’s lots of extra upgrades that you will see. Every dinner menu had a separate section with options to purchase alternative “better” steak and seafood choices. Even the coffee shop had options available for purchase.
YES!! There’s an Oceanfront waterpark with waterslides. This is such a fun area. They also have a smaller kids waterpark area as well.
Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun is Tucked away on the Caribbean coastline on Mexico’s northeastern Yucatan Peninsula is Riviera Cancun. The private, secluded beach area is a quick 20-minute drive from the Cancun International Airport, 30 minutes from downtown Cancun and 40 minutes from Playa del Carmen.

This is subjective to a personal opinion. Technically, yes, it is swimmable. The beach is very small and not the turquoise water you may be dreaming of. We were there in January and there were people in the water, it was clear but did have some rocks at the bottom. It is important to note that this area does get the annual seaweed. Be sure to watch out for that if the beach is very important to you.
