Although I could never pick just one favorite, character meals are some of my many favorite things about our trips to Disney. It is possible that I get just as excited as my six-year-old when I see Tigger bouncing towards our table. In my quest to try each and every character meal at Walt Disney World, we recently dined at 1900 Park Fare at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner.
If you’re having difficulty securing a reservation at Cinderella’s Royal Table, 1900 Park Fare is a great alternative. The usual characters are Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia. It just so happened that during our visit, Lady Tremaine had some other matters to attend to, and Fairy Godmother agreed to entertain guests on her behalf.
Our reservation wasn’t until 8:00 p.m., and after a long day at Magic Kingdom, we were all starved! It did take quite a while for them to seat us after we checked in, so be prepared for a potential wait. In the meantime, you can have your family’s picture taken in front of a mural of a castle. There are no characters in the photo. They will bring the picture to you later while you’re eating and you have the option to purchase it then. Although it is a nice offering, we didn’t choose to purchase ours. It would have been more enticing if we were joined by a character.
This dinner is a buffet, with mostly American-style food. The buffet included various salads, soups, sushi, beef stew, chicken, mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, and a carving station. The children’s section included pizza, corn, green beans, and macaroni and cheese. I had read wonderful things about the strawberry soup, so I made a beeline for it!
One thing we noticed was the buffet line seemed to get backed up easily. We tried to make our trips count since it took us more time to get a plate of food than we would have liked. We also didn’t want to miss any of the characters! Not too long after we got our first plates, we saw Drizella and Anastasia making their way to our section of the restaurant.
One of my favorite photos of my daughter was taken during this dinner. Although it was incredibly special and heartwarming for her to meet her favorite princesses, I wasn’t quite expecting the giddy smile that swept over her face when she met Prince Charming.
The only unfortunate aspect of our meal was in the one hour and fifteen minutes we were there, Cinderella never made it to our table. We weren’t too upset because we met her at Magic Kingdom earlier in the day. It is a good thing we didn’t need her autograph, because our exhaustion was catching up with us.
Overall, we had a great meal here. The characters are unique, and this is one of the few places, other than special events, where you can meet a prince. As a vegetarian, I think it is fair to say the buffet will please just about anyone. My husband also found more than enough to eat, and really enjoyed the carving station. If you’re looking to treat your family to a meal with royals, I highly recommend Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner!
