Favorite Restaurants At Sea

I cruise a lot! One of the hot topics discussed when planning a cruise for a client is the food. Some do it well, some do it better. Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of taking several Norwegian Cruise vacations, some for work and some for pleasure. Regardless, the food has always blown me away! I’ve spoken about consistency a lot for the past 11 years I’ve worked as a travel professional, I appreciate travel suppliers who offer consistency in their product. Food is a HUGE area where travel suppliers need to be careful, it is part of the attraction of travel and it needs to be good.

Let’s talk about some Norwegian Cruise Line food accolades.

First up, Norwegian’s patented Freestyle Dining. Freestyle Dining provides dining choices that satisfy even the pickiest eater in the family. Grab a burger hot off the grill or sit down for a four-course meal. Dress up. Dress down. You’ll find more dining options than days of your cruise, and you’re free to enjoy them all on your own schedule. Yes, this means no reservations needed and I am serious!

Food Republic

Food Republic is exclusive to Norwegian Cruise Line as the only one at sea. The menus at Food Republic are specially crafted to reflect the cultural and culinary diversity of the world around us. A fusion of foods and cultures, every sumptuous dish has been specially curated. Travel to Peru and indulge in a reinvented version of ceviche. Jet away to Japan and try a new kind of sushi roll. Or have a hearty helping of noodles from China. With new iPad menus, a variety of familiar favorites and unique additions from around the globe, you can travel the world without ever leaving the ship.

Here’s how it works, you are given an iPAD which has the menu. You can order as you delight. This means, order a couple of dishes, indulge and order a bit more. If you are a sushi lover, this place is heaven for you. Every dish is made-to-order and so unbelievably fresh, leaves you wondering, how do that do that on a ship? We spent a long while in Food Republic and truly enjoyed every moment of the experience. Even the views add a level of “joy” to your experience.

Food Republic is a specialty dining experience. This means that if you’ve chosen the specialty dining package as one of your free at sea options, you can dine here complementary. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

Cagney’s Steakhouse

Steak is the standard at Norwegian Cruise Line’s American-style steakhouse. Take your pick from choice cuts of Angus Beef like their traditional T-bone or tender Prime Rib. Your mouth will water, so sip your favorite cocktail in anticipation. And don’t forget to order their made-from-scratch jumbo crab cakes and a side of our famous truffle fries. You might be thinking that this cannot be true, think again! Steaks here are the BEST I’ve had anywhere. Everything down to the stemware has been thought off. Don’t believe me? Just watch!

This location is considered a specialty dining location. This means that if you’ve chosen the specialty dining package as one of your free at sea options, you can dine here complementary. It is worth it!

Ocean Blue

Step inside Ocean Blue and experience a temptingly delicious dining experience not to be missed. Guests have the option to sit indoors or out on The Waterfront. This place is amazing!!! If you are a seafood lover, do not miss this specialty dining restaurant. While Ocean Blue boasts their views and waterfront dining, it does not matter where you sit, you will have the best seafood at sea! Enjoy their signature cocktail menu, lobster,  and appetizers galore. Food here was amazing, as well as the impeccable service. The service here is surly choreographed, you have to see it to believe it.

This location is considered a specialty dining location. This means that if you’ve chosen the specialty dining package as one of your free at sea options, you can dine here with a slight up-charge of around $10 per person. Contact your Guru Travel Professional for more information.

You may be wondering, is there any food on Norwegian which is not specialty dining and still good? The answer is YES, YES, YES! Unlike many other cruise lines, Norwegian has several complementary dining options on their ships, not just a main dining room. You will enjoy fine dining in up to three main dining rooms, as well as an amazing buffet option (take it from me, I do not like buffet, but this is amazing!) and another dining venue with more pub style foods. All are amazing! One of my favorites is the Manhattan Room which can be found on several of the ships. The views from this location are stupendous and the food is amazing! You honestly, would never know there is an upgraded option.
