Special Edition: Disney Countdown

Attraction Tuesday!!

Last week I mentioned that I am going to begin a series for the month of August all about my Disney To Do List. I have a ton to do and not enough time to do it…but let’s face it…this stuff is fun!! Planning is part of the attraction.

Today we are going to start with my Disney countdown. I am getting very close to trip time so my two younger children, Logan(6) and Lucas (3) made a Disney countdown calendar this past weekend. We had a blast making it! We were short a few supplies and need to go back to the store to get them…maybe you wont notice what we are missing…lol.

Before you begin you will need supplies…here is my list:

  1. Scissors
  2. Poster board
  3. Mickey Ear Paint Samples from Home Depot ( I do ask the paint person at the counter if it is okay for me to take these before taking a handful.)
  4. Fine tip permanent markers
  5.  Printed Disney pictures of your choice or other Disney decoration items
  6. Pencils
  7. Glue sticks
Like I said earlier, I was working on this project with both my 6 year old and 3 year old. Of course Logan (6) can cut very well and Lucas is still learning. :0) I printed off two sets of the Disney pictures for the boys to cut out so that Lucas could help too. As I suspected he ripped and cut the pictures in half…lol. Logan was able to get all of the pictures cut out so that we could glue them on. While the boys were cutting I was drawing lines across the board to make things even.

Once you have cut all of the supplies out you can place them around the board to get an idea of where you would like to glue them down. I let the boys decide where they wanted things to go…they had a blast!
Next you are ready to glue down your Mickey Ears. I would suggest deciding how many ears you want to place in each row just to make sure it looks even. We went with 8 in each row…Lucas counted out the ears and handed them to me so that I could peel them off and Logan glued them on. Team work!!
Once you have added all of the decorations and Mickey Ears then you are ready to write down the count down numbers. You will notice that we are a few Mickey Ears short and need to go back to Home Depot to get a few more. :0) We are going to make the trip there this week. My husband is a general manager for Menards so I try not to visit Home Depot too often…lol..that is a big no no…lol.
To use the count down you simply add a long ribbon at the top of the chart and tape it to the correct number each day. This will show what number you are on for that day.
We hung our count down in the kitchen so that we can look at it all of the time. Our countdown on this chart begins in just 2 days….let the countdown begin!!
I would love to hear about how you countdown to your Disney vacation!! Join me next time as I tackle a the next item on my Disney To Do List.
P.S.- I do have to say that I really don’t have a creative bone in my body so thanks to Google Images for inspiring my design. :0)
See ya real soon!!
Kelly

  • that is so stinkin’ cute!! I don’t use a countdown chart… yet! I use the widget on my laptop. But, you have inspired me! My 2 year old won’t be able to help create it, so I may do it on my own! I’ll keep you posted! 🙂

  • Thank you Beth!! I also use the widget and I LOVE it. I just love seeing this on the wall…maybe even more than the kids…lol. Thank you so much for stopping by!!

  • We don’t have any kids, so have never done countdowns (other than when we counted down for our wedding, so the Disneymoon was only two days later). This year, I surprised my husband for his birthday. To tell him, I made one of the paper chain links with one link representing one day. He rips one off every morning. I used scrapbook paper – red, yellow, black and white, as well as a few pages of Mickey paper. The last month (?) is just Mickey – because I ran out of the other paper. It turns out great, though, because it helps build the excitement. I told him 6/24 (and booked early February, and it killed me to keep a secret that big!) and he’s been excitedly tearing them off every day. Our trip will celebrate 40th bdays – his from June, mine Jan 2012 and Disney’s (!) on October 1st!

  • Jennie I will see you there. We will be there at the same time. :0)

  • I love it! The kids look like they’re having a ball!

  • Thanks Kathy! We really did have a blast!

  • Love your chart 🙂 How fun!

We did the paper chain. The kids had a blast creating it. You can see it here http://disneybird.blogspot.com/2011/05/countdown-has-begun.html

  • […] some time discussing how I tackle my very extensive to do list. Check out my countdown project here and my spreadsheets post […]
