Life Should Have a Soundtrack

What I mean to say is that as I go through any given day, there should be music going along with me to punctuate everything I am doing.

Unfortunately, Disney World beat me to it! You don’t know this about me yet, but I am very musically inclined. I’m not saying I play instruments or can sing well – I will not be auditioning on American Idol for real OR at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. What I mean is, when I hear a song one or two times, it never quite leaves my brain.

I can remember songs I learned in preschool (if I was a fish I would swim to the store), grade school (the assembly line goes all the time) and bygone Disney park attractions (Let’s all sing like the birdies sing).

Growing up I had records of many of the Disney movies that I listened to on my hardy Boys record player. (Why Hardy Boys? No clue). I also had story and records (when you hear Tinkerbell’s pixie dust, turn the page.)

This cassette changed my life in terms of Disney music listening! Here I could have attractions music in my hands to play any time I wanted! Need to remember that final verse of “Grim Grinning Ghosts”? Press play! Can’t remember the lyrics to “Tomorrow’s Child”? See side B!

As attractions change over the years, so does the music. The Land opened with a cute show inside called “Kitchen Kaberet” with the classic song “Veggie Veggie, Fruit Fruit.” The whole show was a musical revue about healthy eating. Later that show changed to “Food Rocks.” Same concept, different songs. Pita Gabriel would sing “High Fiber.” As of 2005, this attraction has become “Soarin’” that has my favorite piece of attraction music in all of EPCOT.

When my family visits the parks, there are moments I can catch of my girls feeling the music. My oldest can tell what country we’re in at EPCOT because of what she hears. My three year old sings the refrain to It’s A Small World. Both of them sing backup for “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” in unison.

Not only does Disney provide music within attractions, but it’s EVERYWHERE! Walk through Morocco and you will hear rhythms that will make you move!

I didn’t do the Chicken Dance at my wedding, but my oldest and I did at the Biergarten in Germany during their live musical performance.

Even waiting for your family members to use the facilities are chances to enjoy a background loop in EPCOT! My youngest had a great time shaking it.

This is my Disney CD collection. Actually, it’s only part of it. The rest of it is next to the stereo for listening. Once downloading began, I started searching the net for obscure recordings. I burned CDs of park-specific music. Monorail recordings, safety spiels and background loops are part of my collection. Internet radio has now allowed me to hear whatever Disney audio I can imagine.

Suffice it to say that visiting any Disney resort is an amazing experience full of things to see and do. However, next time you are walking through, take a listen – you’ll hear that my dream of a soundtrack for life is a reality!

  • This has got to be by far my favorite blog post EVER! Hubby thinks I’m crazy but I run around the parks singing and dipping and diving to the music of the world… he found it even more hysterical that I use snippets of Disney for my phone ring tones, message alerts, and wake up alarms ( I use innovations from EPCOT as my wake up alarm – always puts a smile on my face)

  • Nita thank you so much! I am sure Jenn will be so happy when she reads your comment. This is exactly what my hope was when I gave out this writing assignment…this is what keeps all of us coming back. Thanks for stopping by!!

  • Disney does everything right, especially the music!!
